PITTSFORD, NY- The #14 ranked University of Rochester field hockey team kept its hot streak going on Tuesday, topping St. John Fisher College 6-1 for the teams 7th straight victory.
The win puts Rochester's record at 10-1 on the season while the host Cardinals drop to 5-5 on the year.
The visiting Yellowjackets got on the board first in what proved to be a wild and crazy first half of play that featured 26 total shots, 17 of which were on goal between the two teams. Junior
Megan Keil scored just 3:25 into the game after she tapped in a pass from teammate
Tiffany White.
The Cardinals were able to respond four and a half minutes later when Alexis Zakala found the cage off a pass from Noelle Knox.
Rochester's
Maura O'Conor gave UR the lead back at 15:31 when she beat Fisher keeper Danielle Famolaro. O'Conor was set up by sophomore
Michelle Relin.
The lead expanded to 3-1 when
Callie Fisher tapped in a hard pass from Pittsford native
Lindsey Randall. The freshman slipped behind the SJFC defense on a penalty corner and was all alone at the back post for an easy score, her fourth of the season.
The Yellowjackets would then score their two quick goals in the second half to break open the close game. First, the freshman Fisher would score her second of the night off a pass from senior All-American
Katie Flaschner. 18 seconds later, Flaschner would get a score of her own on a hard backhand shot from the left wing.
O'Conor would then score her second of the game, recording her fourth goal of the year at 54:43, giving UR a 6-1 lead.
Rochester would control most of the possession in the second half, scoring three goals and shooting five more shots in the half than the Cardinals. For the game, UR earned nine penalty corners to Fisher's eight.
Goalkeepers
Madison Wagner and
Tara Lamberti split time in the Rochester net with Wagner earning the win and moving to 10-0 on the year. She made eight saves while Lamberti made one stop in the second half. SJFC's Famolaro was pelted with 24 total shots, making eight saves.
Rochester next plays host to #17 ranked SUNY Cortland on Sunday at 1 pm.
