Chicago Tops Rochester 2-1 in UAA Action

CHICAGO, IL- The University of Rochester women's soccer team stopped its long goalless drought in UAA play but also lost its scoreless streak and dropped a 2-1 decision to the University of Chicago on Friday afternoon.
 
Entering today's contest, Rochester had held opponents scoreless for the last 361:29 while also entering failing to score in its last 251:54, dating back to October 1st.
 
Chicago (8-3-2, 1-1-1 UAA) got a goal in the 76th minute from Julia Ozello to break a 1-1 tie and give the Maroons the victory.  Rochester (5-4-3, 0-1-2 UAA) had its five game unbeaten streak stopped with the loss.
 
After a balanced first half which saw the teams trade chances, the visiting Yellowjackets were able to score first, getting a goal from sophomore Katie Grasso.  She scored her first career goal when she headed in a free kick from teammate Grace Van der Ven.  The goal just slid inside the right post at 49:12.
 
Just over five minutes later, Chicago was able to score the tying goal when Meghan Derken tapped in a ball past UR goalie Aubrey Jaicks.  The goal came off a scramble in front of the UR net.  Natalia Jovanovic picked up the assist for UC.
 
In goal Jaicks made a UR season high 13 saves, but allowed her first two goals of the season in picking up the loss (2-1-2).  Chicago's Jacinda Reid picked up the win making four saves in 80 minutes of play.
 
Senior Jessica Smith led Rochester with three shots on goal, all coming in the first half.
 
The Yellowjackets next travel to #2 ranked Washington-St. Louis in a matchup on Sunday at 2:30 pm (1:30 central time).
