ST. LOUIS – Case Western Reserve and and Carnegie Mellon fended off stiff challenges from Rochester in the first game of their respective matches at the University Athletic Association women's volleyball round robin at Washington University on Sunday.
Case defeated the Yellowjackets, 3-0 (25-22, 25-13, 25-15). Carnegie Mellon posted a four-set win (3-1; 25-22, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19). Rochester finished the round robin with a 0-7 mark, 8-22 overall. Case finished 13-14 overall, Carnegie 19-7.
The final UAA round robin standings show Washington and Chicago tied for first place at 6-1. Emry is third (5-2), followed by NYU and Carnegie Mellon (both 4-3), Case at 2-5, Brandeis 1-6, and Rochester 0-7.
Jennie Ford led Rochester with eight kills vs. Case. She added eight digs. Savannah Benton had seven kills and three blocks. Xiaoyi Li had 22 assists. Meghan Connor produced 19 digs. Paige Idziur had eight digs, and Ashley Hunter had seven. Aimee Kohler had four kills and two blocks.
Statistically, Benton was the kill leader vs. Carnegie. She had 17 and blocked four attacks. Ford had nine kills, 10 digs, and two blocks. Emma Gira had five kills and four blocks. Connor dug 16 attacks while Idziur had seven digs. Li registered 33 assts, five digs, and three kills. Alexandra Goldman contributed four kills, two digs, and two blocks.
