CLEVELAND, OHIO – Rochester dropped its first two matches of the University Athletic Association round robin, falling to Washington and Chicago, 3-0. The competition is being staged at Case Western Reserve University.
The Yellowjackets lost to the Bears, 25-16, 25-21, 25-12, and to the Maroons, 25-18, 25-23, 25-17. Rochester is 7-15 (0-2 UAA) heading into the third match – against Brandeis on Sunday.
Savannah Benton had eight kills and two blocks against Washington.
Jennie Ford added seven kills and three digs.
Meghan Connor had 16 digs while
Xiaoyi Li had 18 assists and four digs.
Against Chicago, Benton led the way with 17 kills and Ford supplied eight more plus six digs.
Alexandra Goldman had three kills and three blocks.
Emma Gira had four kills. Connor dug 16 balls while
Ashley Hunter had six digs. Li had 32 assists.
Rochester goes to Nazareth on Wednesday, then hosts Earlham College and Hiram College on Saturday as part of Meliora Weekend. Those matches will be played in the Goergen Athletic Center courts. The Palestra has been reserved for other Meliora activities.
The second UAA round robin will be held at Washington University on October 19-20. The championships will be staged at Brandeis on November 8-9. Results in the round robin dictate pairings for the championships.
