#16 UR Rebounds To Top Ithaca 4-1

ITHACA, NY- Using two goals less than a minute apart in the first half, the #16 ranked University of Rochester field hockey team rebounded from only its second loss of the year to top Ithaca College 4-1 on Tuesday evening.

Rochester (11-2) got back into the win column after the teams loss to #17 ranked SUNY Cortland on Sunday afternoon, earning its seventh win in its last eight games.  Ithaca drops to 7-4 on the year with the defeat.

The Yellowjackets ended up getting on the board first nearly 28 minutes into the game when senior captain Katie Flaschner's hard shot from the left side of the circle was tipped into the goal.

Less than 45 seconds later, freshman Callie Fisher would score her sixth goal of the season when she tapped in a rebound off her own shot that was blocked by the Bomber defense.

The scoring spurt continued, but this time with Ithaca chopping the UR lead in half when Danielle Coiro found the back of the cage off a pass from teammate Olivia Salindong.  Coiro's goal, her team leading seventh of the season for the Bombers, came less than two minutes after Rochester went up 2-0.

Rochester would regain its two late in the half when junior Megan Keil was set up for a goal off her own penalty corner.  After inserting the ball into play, Keil went directly to the left post and was fed across the goal mouth by her teammate Fisher, giving UR a 3-1 lead at the break.

Flaschner would score her second of the day seven and a half minutes into the second half, putting the Yellowjackets up 4-1.

After going up by three, the UR defense yielded just three shots on goal the rest of the way to neutralize the Bombers offensive attack.  For the game, Rochester outshot Ithaca 23-10 and had a 14-5 edge in shots on goal.  UR also earned nine more corners than the home Bombers (11-2).

In goal, Tara Lamberti played all 70 minutes, making four saves in her third career start (1-1) for Rochester.  For Ithaca, Katie Lass made 10 saves in the cage.

Rochester's next game is a Friday contest at 4pm when they play host to #4 ranked William Smith College in a key Liberty League showdown.
