#8 Emory Hands UR 2-0 Defeat

The #8 Emory University women's soccer team stifled the University of Rochester's offense Friday night, only surrendering two total shots en route to a 2-0 road win at UR's Fauver Stadium.

The Eagles (12-3-1, 4-1 UAA) pick up a key UAA victory to remain second in the conference standings behind Washington-St. Louis.  The Yellowjackets (5-6-4, 0-3-2 UAA) were shutout for the fifth time on the season.

Both offenses couldn't muster many chances in the first half, heading to the locker room deadlocked at 0-0.  At the break, Emory held a 5-1 shot edge and earned the periods only corner.

In the second half, Emory was able to break the tie four minutes into the second half when Jordan Morell's shot from the right wing trickled past UR keeper Allison Bernstein into the bottom left corner of the goal.  Friday's contest was Bernstein's first in net in over a month after missing time with an injury.  She made seven saves in the game.

The Eagles would then double the lead just over eight minutes later.  This time it was Charlotte Butker whose hard strike from 25 yards out deflected in off the crossbar, giving the #8 Eagles a much needed two goal cushion.

Rochester senior Jessica Smith provided UR's best chances, earning a 2 on 1 break with teammate Lee Stagg early in the game.  Late in the second half, Smith fired UR's lone shot on goal on a turnaround blast from 20 yards out, which was saved by Emory keeper Liz Arnold.

The Yellowjackets finish off the home portion of the regular season on Sunday when they play host to #15 Carnegie Mellon on Senior Day where the six Yellowjacket seniors will be honored for their four years on the field.
