Â
The Yellowjackets earned the two best chances in the first half. Junior
Nick Pastore fired a curling shot from the left wing that smacked the crossbar just over the reach of CMU goalie Chris Madden's outstretched hands. Madden while attempting to make the save actually hit his head on the post but remained in the game.
Â
Just over a minute later, sophomore
Tyler Buck headed a shot right on the Carnegie Mellon net, but that attempt was stopped by CMU's senior keeper.
Â
UR senior
Max Fan had a great second half earning numerous chances. The first two came five minutes into the period when his header off a corner hit the cross bar, on the rebound his second chance header went just high. Fan also earned the next great opportunity, but his header off a great
Alex Swanger cross was saved by Madden. His last chance in regulation was in the 82nd minute on a 3-on-2 break, but Madden was again there to turn the UR senior away.
Â
The Tartans then had back to back scoring opportunities by forward Chris Wysocki coming partway through the half. The first came in the 63rd minute off a cross by Mike Ferraco and the second came in the 69th minute. Both chances were saved away by UR senior keeper
Mike Moranz.
Â
With 15 minutes left, the Yellowjackets had a goal nullified by an intentional handball by junior
Keith Grafmeyer.
Â
With three minutes left in regulation, Carnegie's Jerome Reano broke in on a semi-breakaway, but he dribbled the ball a little too far away and Moranz cut the ball off before getting a shot away.
Â
Neither team could muster any good scoring chances in both overtime periods sending each club to its second tie of the season.
Â
The game was a physical one, featuring seven yellow and one red card. Rochester held a 19-9 shot advantage while the Tartans held a 9-7 edge in corner kicks.
Â
Moranz made four saves in the Rochester net while Madden stopped six shots in the CMU net.
