'Jackets Knot Case Women, 1-1, in Finale

CLEVELAND – Rochester battled winless Case Western Reserve to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday evening and wound up finishing sixth out of eight teams in the University Athletic Association women's soccer race.

The Yellowjackets finished with a 1-3-3 record in UAA play for six points. Overall, Rochester was 6-6-5 playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation among Division III women's soccer programs. The Yellowjackets finished ahead of Case and NYU in the final league standings.

Emily Downie scored on a penalty kick in the 31st minute – at 30:16 – after a Case defender was whistled for pulling down Rochester striker Jessica Smith in the penalty area.

The one-goal lead stood up until the Spartans scored on a rebound. Kate Dolansky took a long shot that cracked against the post and Jessica Sabers was there to score on the rebound at 62:17.

Neither team could muster a tiebreaking goal. Shots were even at 15 apiece. Allison Bernstein made five saves in the Rochester goal. Abbey Smith made four saves for Case and the Spartans cleared one ball off the line. Rochester held a 7-4 edge on corner kicks. The Yellowjackets took five shots in the second 10-minute sudden death period and forced Smith to make three of her five stops.

Case finished with an 8-9-2 overall mark, 0-5-2 in the UAA.
