Men Will Host Fitchburg in NCAA Playoffs

The University of Rochester men's basketball team will host Fitchburg State University in the first round of the NCAA Division III basketball championships on Saturday, March 2. Game time will be announced.

This is Rochester's second NCAA playoff appearance in the last three seasons. The Yellowjackets won their first two games in that tournament and hosted the Sweet 16. They lost to second-ranked Middlebury in the Sweet 16.

Fitchhburg won the Massachusetts State Athletic Conference (MASCAC) championship on Saturday night. The Falcons won three straight road games in the tournament. They defeated Bridgewater State, 63-60, in the quarterfinals, downed Westfield State, 68-61, in the semifinals, and defeated Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (formerly North Adams State), 80-72, in the championship game. Int hat game, Mike Ingram-Rubin scored 25 points, fueled by seven of eight from the floor. He was named the tournament MVP.

The Falcons head into the tournament with a record of 16-10. They were 5-6 on their own floor, were 9-4 on the road, and 2-0 on neutral courts.

Rochester heads into the tournament at 21-4. The Yellowjackets finished the season tied for the University Athletic Association championship with a 10-4 record. Rochester was knotted with Emory and Washington. All three UAA teams received bids and all three are hosting first round games. Washington will host Spalding College. Emory will host Randolph College.
