GAMBIER, Ohio – A goal midway through the second half and a clutch defensive play in the final minutes sparked Rochester to a 1-0 field hockey victory over Kenyon College on Sunday.
The defensive battle came one day after the Yellowjackets opened their season with a 6-1 victory at Ohio Wesleyan University. Rochester is 2-0 and plays its home opener on Wednesday in Fauver Stadium against Nazareth at 7 pm.
Megan Keil snapped a scoreless tie at 53:28 off a pass from
Michelle Relin. The Ladies kept pressing. They were denied the equalizer at 68:21 when Rochester's
Kathryn Montgomery made a defensive save on a shot by Cecelia Depman.
Tara Lamberti and
Madison Wagner split time in the cage. Lamberti started and played the first half. In 35 minutes, she faced nine shots and made four saves. Wagner took over at halftime. In her 35 minutes in the second half, she faced five shots and made three saves.
Syndey Carney-Knisley played the full 70 minutes in goal for Kenyon. She made nine saves on 18 shots. Rochester outshot Kenyon, 18-14, 11-8 in shots on goal. The Yellowjackets held an 11-8 edge on penalty corners.
