ATLANTA - Emory University won for the 18th time in the last 19 games dating back to last season when the Eagles defeated the University of Rochester, 74-43, in women's basketball at the Woodruff PE Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles improved to 12-0 overall, 1-0 in the University Athletic Association. Rochester is 6-6 overall, 0-1 in the UAA.
Emory is ranked ninth in Division III by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association and 12th by D3hoops.com. The Eagles won the UAA regular season title last year by a game over Rochester.
Rochester couldn't get its shooting untracked, hitting 16 of 52 from the floor (31%) and two of 10 outside the arc (20%). Emory hit 30 of 80 from the floor (38%), 10 of 24 on three-point shots (42%).
The Yellowjackets held a strong rebounding advantage, outboarding Emory, 49-39.
Loren Wagner grabbed nine rebounds,
Danielle McNabb had eight, and
Katie Weiner grabbed six.
Kelsey Hurley scored a team-high 13 points for the Yellowjackets.
Emily Lewis scored eight points, coming on the heels of a 17-point performance against Averett University in midweek.
Selena Castillo and Shellie Kaniut scored 14 points apiece for Emory.
Rochester played without leading scorer and starting point guard
Ally Zywicki. She missed the midweek victory over Averett.
