'Jackets Earn Dramatic 2-1 Come From Behind Win Over CMU

PITTSBURGH, PA - The University of Rochester men's soccer team earned a dramatic 2-1 win over Carnegie Mellon University with two goals late in regulation on Sunday.

The Yellowjackets (8-5-3, 2-3-1 UAA) scored in the 84th minute and then again in the 86th minute to snatch a victory away from the host Tartans (8-5-2, 2-2-2 UAA).

Junior Sean Daly scored the equalizer for Rochester at 83:23 when he chested down a ball off a punch out by CMU keeper Jacob Rice and lifted the ball past the keeper to tie the score at 1-1.  Sophomore Ben Swanger picked up an assist on the play after providing the initial shot on goal.

Senior Ben Keeton then picked up the game winner for UR in the final regular season road game of his career a little over two minutes later at 85:31 when he headed a free kick just inside the far post past a diving Rice in net.  Junior Jeffrey Fafinski picked up the assist after his service found Keeton's head inside the box.

The Tartans would grab the lead in the 70th minute Ryan Stinebaugh chipped a ball into the open net after UR keeper Michael Shatkin was out of the net.  Tristan Lockwood recorded an assist on the play for CMU.

Overall, Shatkin made three saves in the victory for the Yellowjackets while Rice made five stops for the Tartans.

The teams were scoreless through 45 minutes in the first half, with 5-1 edge in shots and 3-1 advantage in corners.  The final tallies ended with Rochester holding a 9-8 shot advantage and Carnegie Mellon ending with four corners to UR's three.

UR finishes its season with a home game against Case Western Reserve University on Saturday when all of Rochester's seniors will be honored in a ceremony pregame honoring their four years of play for the 'Jackets.
