SANFORD, FL- The University of Rochester offense struggled to plate any runs in an 11-0 loss to Emory University at the UAA Baseball Championships on Wednesday night.
The Yellowjackets (0-5, 0-5 UAA) threatened in the first, getting two on with one out after
Sam Slutsky reached on an error and
Nolan Schultz doubled, but a pop up double-play thwarted that opportunity.
The Eagles (13-6, 4-1 UAA) were able to get five runs on the board through the first four innings. Emory tallied two in the 2nd, two in the 3rd and one more in the fourth.
UR starter
Matt Todd went five innings, scattered 6 hits, 5 runs while striking out 3 and walking 1.
Rochester looked to close in during the top of the 4th, loading the bases but Eagle starter Paul Merolla induced
Steve Eychner to ground out, ending the threat.
Emory would tack on six runs in the sixth to put Rochester out of reach in the contest.
Merolla picked up a shutout win, allowing seven hits while striking out seven UR batters.
Leading the Yellowjackets with two hits each were Schultz and
Brendan Garry.
Jake Meyerson, Eychner and
Brandon Heinrich each added on hit.
Rochester continues the UAA Championships on Thursday with a 5 pm contest against Case Western Reserve.
