ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla – Rochester offense was held in check for the most part on Saturday and the Yellowjackets dropped their final two games in the University Athletic Association championships.
Case Western Reserve defeated Rochester, 4-1, in the morning game and Washington-St. Louis took a 7-3 decision in the second game. Rochester is 5-7 heading back north. The Yellowjackets were 2-6 in the UAA event.
Tayler Fravel had two of Rochester's seven hits against Case. In the top of the second, she singled and advanced to second three batters later when Laurel Muni was hit by a pitch. Fravel scored for a 1-0 lead on
Tiffany White's single. White took second on the throw, but was stranded there when the Spartans retired Meg Hennessy on a flyout to center.
Case scored two runs in its half of the second and one more in the third for a 3-1 lead. Fravel was the instigator of a fourth inning threat by Rochester. She singled to left center and moved to second on
Alyssa Murillo's sac bunt.
Eleni Wechsler singled to short with Fravel holding at second.
Tori Poplaski ran for Wechsler. After Muni popped to short, the base runners each stole a base, Fravel taking third and Poplaski moving to second. White was retired on a groundout to short.
Brittany Grage was denied a home run in the bottom of the third when Case centerfielder Rachel Komar pulled her drive back over the fence as the final out of the inning. Grage pitched the first three innings and took the loss, allowing seven hits, three earned runs, with one walk and two strikeouts. Wechsler pitched the last three innings, yielding three hits and one earned run while striking out one.
In the second game, Washington took charge by scoring in each of the last four innings after the teams battled through three innings of 0-0. White had a run-scoring single in the bottom of the fourth to help Rochester get within 3-2.
Nina Korn hit her second home run of the spring, a solo shot in the fifth inning.
Wechsler pitched the first 3.2 innings for Rochester. She allowed five hits, four earned runs, and walked three. Grage pitched the next 1.2 innings, allowing one run, and
Ashley Amidon finished up, throwing the last 1.2 innings. She allowed two runs.
