Sophomore
Lance Hamilton went 3-4 with a run and RBI single in his first game action since the UAA Tournament in mid-March to lead the University of Rochester baseball team to a 5-2 victory over visiting Keuka College on Tuesday night at Towers Field.
Rochester (9-11) also got a solid pitching performance from spot-starter
Matt Todd. The sophomore picked up his first win of the season tossing six innings while allowing four hits, one run and two walks while striking out three. Classmate
Andrew Crean came in for the next two innings allowing one run on three hits and sophomore
Evan Janifer pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his fourth save of the season.
After a scoreless first four innings, Rochester was able to break through with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Brandon Heinrich sandwiched a single between a
Nate Mulberg and Todd walk loading the bases for
Ethan Sander. The senior would slap a single to right field moving the runners up and getting UR on the board. Heinrich would then score on a passed ball and that followed by
Nolan Schultz providing a sacrifice fly to give Rochester a 3-0 lead.
Keuka (7-6) would get a run back in the sixth when Jake Burachalk scored after Todd uncorked a wild pitch with runners on 1st and 3rd.
Mulberg would get that run back with a RBI safety squeeze bunt in the sixth, scoring Hamilton who reached on a single to center. The senior infielder went 2-2 on the day with a run, RBI and stolen base.
Hamilton provided an RBI single in the seventh before Keuka would tack on a run on a Conner Anderson single in the 8th, reaching the final score of 5-2.
The Yellowjackets take the field again on Wednesday, in a makeup doubleheader against conference rival RIT at Towers Field. Games one is slated for a 4 pm start.
