Consistency, as most coaches will tell you, is an extremely desirable trademark.
Nate Mulberg displayed that over four seasons on the baseball team at the University of Rochester. He's done it in the classroom as well, and for the second straight year, has been amply rewarded for it.
Mulberg was named to the Capital One Academic All-District III First Team in voting by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America. It is his second straight All-District honor.
On the field, he hit a career best .359 (33-92) with 16 R BIs. He drew 10 walks, was hit by a pitch nine times, and struck out only twice. In the May 27 Division III baseball rankings, he was ranked sixth (of 100) among Division III hitters as toughest to strike out. His 10 sacrifice bunts placed him 21
st out of 200 ranked in Division III.
Mulberg finished third in batting average. His on-base percentage of .468 tied him for the team lead. In the field, he had 41 putouts, 89 assists, and eight errors (.942 fielding percentage). He played three infield positions – second base, shortstop, and third base, seeing the most action at third.
He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, the internationally-renowned honor society, in the spring. He was a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and won a Student Life Award from the University. Mulberg was selected as a Provost's Circle Scholar in 2012-13, an award that salutes the top junior student-athletes. He won Rochester's John Vitone Sportsmanship Award in 2014, presented by the Department of Athletics and Recreation.
The Cherry Hill, NJ resident (Cherry Hill East HS) graduated from the University on May 18 with a baccalaureate degree in English with a minor in business. His final cumulative grade point average was 3.81 on a 4.00 scale. He was a teaching assistant for an economics class as an undergraduate.
He served as a media relations intern with the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League and with the Rochester Red Wings (Triple A baseball). He interned for two years with the John DiTullio Show, a local talk radio program in Rochester.
Mulberg was a website intern with Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia. On campus, he worked in the athletic communications office in all four years. He was the sports director of WRUR, the campus radio station. He organized and trained student broadcasters to do live webcasts of six sports.
