TROY, NY – Brittany Grage threw the first perfect game in Rochester's softball history as the Yellowjackets defeated RPI, 8-0, in the first game of the final round of the Liberty League softball championships at Doris Robison Field on Saturday morning.
By virtue of Rochester's victory, the Yellowjackets and Engineers will play one more time, starting just around noon. The winner of that game will win the Liberty League title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.
Grage struck out three and induced nine groundouts. It is the second no-hitter of her career and the second by a Rochester pitcher this season. Grage threw a non-hitter against RIT in 2013. Eleni Wechsler threw a no-hitter against Skidmore on April 14, 2014.
Tayler Fravel had three hits. Fravel and Meg Hennessy scored two runs apiece. Nina Korn and Lauren Muni hit home runs.
With two down in the third, Fravel singled and stole second. Hennessy walked. Korn got ahead, 2-0, then fouled off two pitched. She hit the next pitch over the right field fence for her 11th home run this season.
Rochester scored five runs in the top of the fifth. Shelby Corning singled and was bunted to second by Tiffany White. Fravel tripled to left center, scoring Corning. Hennessy tripled down the left field line, scoring Fravel. Korn popped up. Wechsler singled to bring home Hennessy and Lauren Muni homered to left center.
