FROSTBURG, MD – Rochester took a pair of volleyball matches on Saturday at the Frostburg State Tournament and in the process, helped head coach
Ladi Iya attain her 100
th coaching victory.
The Yellowjackets defeated LaRoche College, 3-0 (25-21, 28-26, 25-15) in their first match. They followed that with a 3-0 win over Cairn University (25-19, 25-14, 25-14). Rochester won three of four matches at the tournament. The victory over LaRoche was the milestone win.
Emma Gira had a team-high nine kills against LaRoche.
Nina Baek had six kills and four other players had four or more:
Michaela Chan had five,
Jennie Ford,
Shira Katz, and
Anna MacDonald had four apiece.
Ashley Hunter had 18 digs and Ford had 11.
Meghan Connor recorded eight digs while Baek and Chan had seven apiece. Ford had four of Rochester's eight service aces.
Xiaoyi Li had 29 assists.
Against Cairn, Gira had 11 kills and Ford had 10. Chan added six. Hunter dug 17 balls while Connor had 15 digs. Li had eight digs and 30 assists. Rochester collected 10 aces. Hunter had four and Katz had two.
The two wins evened Rochester's record at 6-6. The Yellowjackets play at the SUNY Geneseo Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
