Multiple Scorers Help UR Claim 11th Victory

Three players scored two goals apiece as the University of Rochester field hockey team claimed its 11th win of the season – this one an 8-0 victory over Elmira College.
 
The Yellowjackets improved to 11-4 overall. Elmira is 4-10. The Soaring Eagles lost their fourth straight match.
 
Callie Fisher, Michelle Relin, and Nicole Cerza each scored twice for Rochester. Mimi Adar had one goal and one assist. Kathryn Montgomery, a defender, scored her first collegiate goal. Olivia Denny had two assists. Miranda Lakis had one.
 
Tara Lamberti made one save in the first half for Rochester. Gabrielle Cantley and Kiran Sundaram split the second half. Cantley made three saves. Sundaram was not required to make a save.
 
For Elmira, Julie Hockenberger played the first 35 minutes (nine saves, five goals allowed) and Mikayla Rebusmen played the second half (four saves, three goals allowed).
 
Rochester held a 31-7 edge on overall shots, 21-4 in shots on goal. The Yellowjackets had 13 penalty corners to one for the Soaring Eagles.
 
Cerza scored the opener at 3:12, indirectly off a penalty corner. She had the first shot which was saved by Hockenberger. Relin's rebound try was saved as well.  Cerza's shot on the third chance was good. Fisher scored in the 11th minute. Adar scored one and set up another within three minutes later in the half, and Relin scored on a rebound less than two minutes before halftime.
 
In the second half, Fisher sored her second as the Yellowjackets completed a four-on-one break. Relin chipped in a shot from the top of the circle into the upper right hand corner. Montgomery earned her first collegiate goal in the 62nd minute. Relin carried the ball down the middle and passed it to Denny on the right. She took it deeper into the circle and as Rubusmen charged out to cut down the angle, Denny played it across the cage to Montgomery who swept it into the goal.
