The University of Rochester played its best game of the season in posting a milestone win over SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon in field hockey at Edwin Fauver Stadium.

Rochester won, 3-0, with standout performances in all the facets: goaltending, defense, midfield, and attack. The win improved the Yellowjacket record to 9-2. It was Rochester's fourth consecutive win since a 2-1 loss to 14
th-ranked Mary Washington on September 20.

Cortland, now 7-3, Â entered the match at 7-2 with its last four wins all by shutout. The Red Dragons defeated Morrisville State, 11-0, on Friday afternoon.

Michelle Relin scored all three goals. The first goal came off a penalty corner, the second on a breakaway, and the third in a scramble in the circle.
Relin had a hat trick to lead the way.Â
Goaltender Tara Lamberti made seven saves, several at point blank range, and a couple that were outstanding.

In the Cortland cage, Kailynne Reinoehl had three saves. Defender Alexa Sansone had a defensive save to keep the deficit at one goal.

Relin opened the scoring at 5:15. Steady Rochester pressure in the opening minutes led to a penalty corner. Tiffany White inserted it to Abe at the right side of the circle. She moved to her left and fed Relin who one-timed a low blast into the right corner of the goal.

Cortland's first good chance came early in the second half. Steady pressure from the Dragons earned a penalty corner. The shot by Jillian Vogl off the corner was saved by Lamberti.

In a three-minute stretch midway through the period, each team had two solid chances to change the score. Relin collected a pass on the left flank. She swept down to the endline, drawing Reinoehl off the endline. Her pass slid across the open goalmouth and Callie Fisher's tip attempt went just wide of the right pot.

Cortland had a similar try 90 seconds later. Jessica Welsh showed good stickwork on the left endline and shoveled a pass to Megan O'Brien. Her shot for the left side was denied when Lamberti got a stick on it to push it away.

Claire Dickerson had a shot at an open net with the goaltender off the line but Sanzone got a stick on it to push it clear of goal. Just over a minute later, Lamberti went to the ground to block two close-in shots.

The Yellowjackets scored a transition goal with just under 16 minutes to play. Mimi Adar collected the ball on the left, moved forward, and played the ball to Relin a step behind the defense. She raced into the top of the circle and whipped the ball inside the low right corner at 54:07.

She finished the hat trick at 63:56. The Yellowjackets applied steady pressure and in a scramble in front of the cage, Relin was able to backhand it into the net.

Notes: The victory was Rochester's first-ever win over Cortland after 30 straight losses. The series started in 1981… Lamberti was honored before the game with a Lysle "Spike" Garnish Award, representative of the top 10 senior student-athletes… Cortland won the last three games by one goal… This was a matchup of two teams listed among Also Receiving Votes in the current NFHCA Division III poll.
