NEW YORK, NY - Facing two top 25 teams in the same day is a tough task, let alone having both of those be games in one of the toughest volleyball conferences.
That happened on Saturday for the University of Rochester, falling by 3-0 scores to both #16 University of Chicago and #2 Washington University in St. Louis at the 1st UAA Round Robin.
Rochester (10-9, 0-2 UAA) lost 25-15, 25-12, 25-17 to the Maroons (13-4) and then dropped the nightcap to the Bears (16-1) 25-23, 25-9, 25-11.
In the opener against Chicago, UR was led by senior Emma Gira who had nine kills and three digs. Sophomore Alexandra Nelligan added eight kills while senior Jennie Ford chipped in six kills and seven digs. Aimee Kohler had 22 assists.
Against 2nd ranked Wash U., the Yellowjackets came out and went toe-to-toe with the Bears, smacking 19 kills in the first set, hitting .375 over that span. But the Bears also had 19 kills in the set, hit .447 and edged out the set.
Overall in the match, Ford led UR with six kills and six digs. Shira Katz and Alexandra Goldman added five kills each while Gira and Kohler added four apiece. Kohler added 22 more assists and chipped in six digs. Ashley Hunter recorded 10 digs in the nightcap.
Rochester continues UAA Round Robin #1 against host NYU on Sunday at 10 am.
