'Jackets Earn Big Win In Home Opener

The University of Rochester men's basketball team rolled past Keystone College 90-64 in its home opener, advancing to the finals of the UR Chuck Resler Invitational on Friday night at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
 
The Yellowjackets (1-1) had four players in double-figure scoring led by senior Jared Selzer with 15 points and seven rebounds.  Sophomore Daniel Schwartz chipped in 14 points, including 4-of-5 shooting from 3-point range while Michael Mangan and Jacob Wittig each added 10.
 
Rochester will move on to the Relsler championship game to face Vassar College on Saturday at 8 pm.  Vassar defeated Ohio Northern 81-77 in the other men's semifinal.  Keystone (0-2) will face off against Ohio Northern in the 3rd place game at 3 pm Saturday.

UR started out the game strong, jumping out a 7-0 lead 2:30 into the contest.  The lead ballooned to 19-4 after a Wittig layup 5:45 in.  Late in the first half, Schwartz connected on three straight 3-point tries to build a 30 point margin for UR.
 
Visiting Keystone couldn't generate much offense in the first half, shooting just 35% while the Yellowjackets in comparison shot 53% in the opening half.  At the break, UR led 54-25.
 
It was more of the same strong output for Rochester to open the second half as the Yellowjackets scored 17 of 23 points over the first seven minutes to build a 40-point lead.
 
Overall in the game, every player on the roster logged time on the court with 13 of them scoring at least one point.  In addition to the four leading scorers for the 'Jackets, Mack Montague and Brendan O'Shea added 8 points each, Sam Borst-Smith had 7 and Ryan Clamage scored 5.  As a team UR dished out 18 assists, with Borst-Smith leading the way with five while Mangan led all players with three steals.
 
The only player in double digit scoring for Keystone was ShaShawn Drayton who scored 12 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.  Khyle Diaz and Devin Williams each added nine points for the Giants.
 
Rochester as a team shot 48% (30-63) while Keystone was held to 37% shooting (24-65).  The Yellowjackets held a 41-39 edge on the glass while forcing 24 Giant turnovers.
