ATLANTA - Despite outshooting host Emory University, the University of Rochester women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision in the season finale on Saturday at the Woodruff PE Center.
The Yellowjackets end the season with an 8-7-2 record and 2-4-1 mark in the UAA. Host Emory earns its first UAA victory to close the season and finishes with an 8-6-4 record, 1-3-3 in the UAA.
Overall, Rochester held a 13-10 advantage in shots and also controlled the corner kick stat, taking seven to Emory's three.
The UR goal was scored by junior Lee Stagg in the 71st minute. Freshman Kerri Eden earned a free kick in the Emory zone, and after her shot was blocked, Stagg was there to scoop in the rebound for the Yellowjacket score.
Emory had built up a 3-0 lead prior to the UR score though and was too big a deficit for the 'Jackets to overcome. The Eagles were able to strike early, getting a goal directly off a corner kick from Jordan Morell at the 8:12 mark.
EU would then double the lead in the 31st minute when Grace Jarrett scored her first of the season poking in a cross past UR goalkeeper Madilynne Lee.
In the second half, Emory would make it 3-0 behind a goal from Sophia Dillon who beat Samantha Hlavac for her third goal of the season after a through ball pass from Cristina Ramirez at the top of the box.
In the goals, Emory keepers Kristin Temple and Liz Arnold split halves, with Temple making two saves in the first half and Arnold stopping three shots in the second half. For UR, Lee made one save in the opening 45 minutes while Hlavac stopped one shot in the second half.
