SANFORD, FL – Washington University in St. Louis scored four times in the bottom of the 8th inning to rally past the University of Rochester 7-5 in the UAA Baseball Tournament on Saturday afternoon at Sanford Memorial Stadium.

The Yellowjackets (3-4, 3-4 UAA) used a big 4-run 7th inning to grab a lead, but the Bears (6-3, 5-2 UAA) answered with a run in the bottom of the 7th and four more in the next inning to complete the comeback.

Rochester was led by senior Josh Ludwig who went 1-3 with a double, run and 3 RBI.  Senior Sam Slutsky added two hits and an RBI and Jake Meyerson was 2-4 with a run scored.  Michael Mondon started on the mound for Rochester and went 7 innings, allowed 11 hits, 3 runs (1 earned) and 1 walk while striking out 4.  Evan Janifer took the loss for the Yellowjackets.

Washington's starter was Max Zhang who went 6.1 innings, gave up 7 hits, 5 runs (4 earned) and 4 walks while striking out 5.  Matt Clohisy earned the win in 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Bears.  At the plate, Wash U's Chris Lowery went 4-5 with a double, 2 RBI and a run.  Brian Cizek had two hits and two RBI and Austin Darmawan, Brandon Deger and Ben Browdy each went 2-5 on the day.

UR was able to get on the board first, scoring an unearned run in the 2nd inning when Meyerson reached on a fielding error by Washington, plating Lance Hamilton.  The Bears would even the score with an unearned run of their own in the 3rd, scoring when Darmawan scored on a Lowery RBI single after reaching on a fielding error.

The Bears would score an unearned run again in the bottom of the 6th when Deger crossed the plate after a UR throwing error.

Rochester would respond with their big 7th inning to grab a 5-2 lead.  After a line out, Meyerson and Tyler Schmidt both singled.  Matt Todd drew a walk to load the bases and Ludwig recorded his 5th double of the season, plating all three runners.  Nolan Schultz then singled, moving Ludwig to third where he would score after an RBI single from Slutsky.  With the bases still loaded and one out, Clohisy would strike out Brian Munoz and get Dan Warren to fly out to end the inning.

In the bottom of the inning, Washington would score one on a Zack Kessinger sacrifice fly before grabbing the lead in the 8th.  After a leadoff strikeout, the next six batters reached for the Bears, scoring runs on a CJ Price single, Lowery double and Cizek 2-RBI single.
