The University of Rochester baseball team used a balanced effort offensively and was solid on the mound to defeat St. John Fisher College 11-1 in non-league action on Wednesday evening at Towers Field.

The Yellowjackets top four in the batting order went a combined 8-17 at the plate with 10 runs scored and 7 RBI. That quartet was made up of Sam Slutsky, Brian Munoz, Nolan Schultz and Lance Hamilton.

Schultz finished just a single shy of the cycle.Schultz finished just a single shy of the cycle, going 3-5 with a double, triple and home run, adding 4 RBI and 3 runs scored. Hamilton was 2-5, with 2 runs and 3 driven in. Slutsky also had two hits and three runs while Munoz reached base four times and scored twice for UR (9-7).

St. John Fisher (6-11) was able to get two runners on in the first inning behind two Rochester errors, starter Evan Janifer fanned Scott Eisenmenger to end the threat.

Rochester would then strike for four runs in the bottom of the inning to jump ahead. After a Slutsky single and Munoz walk, Schultz tripled to right scoring two. Hamilton then singled up the middle plating Schultz and eventually scored on a botched double play ball off the bat of Jake Meyerson.

The 'Jackets would tack on another in the 2nd when Schultz hit into a fielders choice, scoring Slutsky.

Janifer, typically UR's closer, got some early work on Wednesday in what was his first career start. He ended up tossing 5 innings, allowing just 1 unearned run on 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out a career best 6. Andrew Crean finished off the victory tossing 4 scoreless innings of 3 hit ball, picking up 2nd career save.

In the fourth, Rochester's lead boosted to 7-0 after two unearned runs scored behind three Cardinal errors.

Fisher would score its only run of the game in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Mike Roman. The run was unearned after a passed ball allowed runners to move up to 2nd and 3rd.

The seventh inning saw Schultz lead off with a ground rule double to left. Hamilton then hit a line drive single to center scoring the junior. After a Brendan Garry walk, Tyler Schmidt singled through the infield to score Hamilton who had stolen 2nd base. Meyerson then ripped a single to center to plate Garry. In the 8th, Schultz cracked a solo blast to left center to complete the scoring.

Rochester gets a day off Thursday before hosting St. Lawrence University in Liberty League doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday.
