CANTON, NY - The University of Rochester softball team swept two low scoring affairs at St. Lawrence University on Sunday afternoon, earning the right to host the Liberty League Tournament next weekend.

The Yellowjackets improved to 24-11 and 10-2 in the Liberty League while the Saints fall to 13-13 and 5-7 in the conference. UR earned the Liberty League regular season crown and will play host to the four team conference tournament next weekend featuring UR, RPI, Union and Skidmore.

UR took game one by a score of 4-0 and edged out the Saints in the nightcap, winning 4-3.

Wayson had 2-RBI in game one.Game one was a pitchers duel between Rochester's Brittany Grage and SLU's Kyle Plimpton. The game was scoreless through four innings, with Plimpton only allowing one hit in that timeframe. In the fifth, UR would break through with an RBI single from senior designated player Sarah Wayson.

The Yellowjackets would tack on three insurance runs in the 7th. Senior Ashley Amidon hit a pinch hit solo home run to left center, Wayson added another RBI single and sophomore Eleni Wechsler tacked on a sac fly.

Grage was spectacular, spinning a 4-hit shutout while issuing no walks and striking out five. The shutout was the seniors 4th this season and 18th of her career, putting her just one shutout behind UR's career leader.

Plimpton allowed 7 hits, 4 runs, 4 walks while fanning 8 Yellowjackets in game one.

In game two, all the scoring was done in the middle three innings of the contest. Rochester scored one in the 3rd, two in the 4th and one in the 5th. St. Lawrence notched a run in the 3rd and two more in the 5th.

Grage opened the scoring, lining a double to left field to score Shelby Corning. St. Lawrence's Laura Finley responded, tying the score in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI double.

The fourth inning saw Julia Liberto single in Gabriela Alatorre to go up 2-1. UR then went up 3-1 after Shelby Corning and Liberto executed a 1st and 3rd double steal. In the 5th, Amidon added a sacrifice fly to go ahead by three.

SLU's Finley then drove in the Saints' other two runs with a single to left in the bottom of the 5th inning.

In the 7th inning, St. Lawrence's Aisha O'Connor led off with a single to left. After a sacrifice bunt to put her into scoring position, Grage then relieved Wechsler on the rubber for the Yellowjackets. She promptly recorded two outs to seal the win and earn her first save of the year.

Wechsler tossed 6.1 innings, scattered 8 hits and allowed 3 runs and 2 walks while striking out 6. SLU's Plimpton pitched a complete game in the nightcap as well, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), 3 walks while striking out 4.
