Brockport Seals Win on Late Unearned Runs

BROCKPORT, N.Y. – In the final non-conference game of the season, Rochester dropped a 6-2 decision to the College at Brockport on Tuesday afternoon.

It was the second win of the year vs. Rochester for Brockport. The Golden Eagles won, 3-0, at Towers Field earlier this year. Rochester is 24-12 heading into this weekend's Liberty League final series against Union College in Schenectady. Brockport is 19-14.

The Yellowjackets mustered five hits vs. Brockport pitching, but two of those came in the top of the eighth when the Yellowjacket offense came to life. Down 3-0 with only six outs left, Rochester scored twice to make a game of it. Steve Eychner led off with a single. He advanced to second on Sam Slutsky's groundout to first. Brian Munoz walked. Brendan Garry followed with a two-run double to the left centerfield gap.

Matt Todd pinch-hit for Lance Hamilton, but struck out. Jake Meyerson worked out a walk to put runners at first and second before Brockport brought on Nick Jerdimov to relieve. He induced Josh Ludwig to fly out to left field, ending the inning.

The one-run deficit rose to four in Brockport's half. The Golden Eagles scored three unearned runs. The first two men got on, one courtesy of an error, before a throwing error allowed both men to score and put the hitter on third base. He later scored on a base hit.

David Strandberg took the loss. Through the first six innings, he allowed five hits and three earned runs. Michael Mondon pitched the seventh and Ethan McGowan pitched in the eighth.  Brockport's Dakota Stackhouse was the winner. In five innings, he allowed two hits and one walk while striking out five.
