Geneseo Shuts Out Rochester In Season Opener

GENESEO, NY – The University of Rochester men's soccer team kicked off the 2015 season dropping a 1-0 decision at SUNY Geneseo on Tuesday evening.
 
The Knights (1-0) got a goal in the 21st minute from Ethan Gunty and the defense, led by Logan Calvey in goal made the lone tally stand up.  Calvey picked up the win making five saves.
 
The game was played very evenly with Rochester holding an 8-7 edge in shots and 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.  It also was a physical contest, with 23 fouls between the schools and five total yellow cards.
 
Tuesday's match was the first in Geneseo's new College Stadium and was played in front of an announced crowd of 1500.
 
In goal for Rochester (0-1), Marshal Davidson made four saves in his first collegiate start.  Leading UR in shots was Brendan Kelly who had three, two of which were on net.
 
The Yellowjackets return to Rochester for their home opener which is slated for 1:30 pm on Saturday at Fauver Stadium.  UR will square off against Rutgers-Newark in the first ever meeting between the two schools as a part of Rochester's annual Flower City Classic.  The other two schools in the two day classic are Morrisville State and SUNY Cortland.
