UTICA, N.Y. - Michelle Relin set up the first goal, then scored a key insurance goal as the University of Rochester defeated Utica College, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon. Nancy Bansbach scored the first Rochester goal.
Rochester improved to 5-0 this season. Utica is 1-4. The win came 24 hours after the Yellowjackets defeated SUNY New Paltz, 3-1, at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Tara Lamberti made four saves in goal for Rochester. Kells Casey had 13 saves for the Pioneers - who also had a defensive save from Jessica Smith. Lamberti made three of her saves in the second half. For the match, she denied Rebecca Kauffman twice, Colleen Dowling once, and Maria Orsino once.
Rochester opened the scoring at 17:41. Relin fed a pass to Bansbach 10 yards from goal. She ran in and directed a shot past Casey for a 1-0 lead. With just under 14 minutes remaining, the Yellowjackets converted from a penalty corner (56:04). Sayaka Abe collected the insertion, settled it and slid it to Relin who fired.
Rochester outshot Utica, 22-7 and held a 20-4 advantage on penalty corners.
