NEW PALTZ, N.Y. - Down 1-0 midway through the first half, the University of Rochester scored twice to rally for a 2-1 field hockey victory over SUNY New Paltz on Saturday afternoon. The win boosted the Yellowjacket record to 10-0 while the Hawks slipped to 7-3.
Callie Fisher and
Sayaka Abe scored the Rochester goals. For Fisher, it was her seventh goal of the season. She leads the team in scoring with seven goals and four assists for 18 points. Abe scored her first goal of the season. She tops UR in assists with eight.
Gabrielle Cantley played the first 35 minutes in goal. She allowed one goal but was not required to make a save.
Kiran Sundaram played the second 35 minutes. She made three saves.
Alexis Wood had a defensive save for Rochester.
New Paltz opened the scoring with a penalty stroke at 20:13 by Kayla McKeveny. Fisher equalized three minutes later. Abe's gamewinner came at 44:09 after four minutes of steady pressure by the Hawks on the Yellowjacket goal.
Rochester returns to Fauver Stadium on Tuesday to face St. John Fisher at 5 pm. The Yellowjackets get back into Liberty League play next Saturday at Vassar College.
