Volleyball Gets 20th Win In 3-0 Sweep of Elmira

ELMIRA, NY – The University of Rochester picked up its 20th win of the season, defeating host Elmira College 3-0 on Tuesday evening at Speidel Gymnasium.
 
The win moves the Yellowjackets to 20-9 on the year with the Soaring Eagles dropping to 5-13 on the season.  The last time UR had 20 victories in a year was the 2012 season when Rochester went 22-12.
 
It was a strong offensive performance for the 'Jackets as UR hit over .180 in each set, capturing the match by set scores of 25-9, 25-19 and 25-18.  The high point for Rochester was the first set when the Yellowjackets had 13 kills, 3 errors in 32 attempts for a mark of .312.
 
UR's Clara Martinez led the way with 10 kills while hitting .269.  It was the sophomore's 11th game with double-digit kills this season.  Senior Aimee Kohler was a perfect 5-5 on kill attempts and added 33 assists and five digs for the Yellowjackets.

Goldman had seven block assists on the night.

Alexandra Nelligan chipped in eight kills and hit .389 on the night while assisting on three blocks.  Teammate Alexandra Goldman led all players with seven block assists in the match, the fourth most by a UR player in a single match this year.  Overall, Rochester had 10 blocks as a team, with Beth Ghyzel adding four.  The freshman also added four kills and six digs.
 
Defensively, Meghan Connor led UR with 15 digs with Sara Apanavicius adding 11.  Courtney Vidovich recorded 10 and had two of Rochester's 12 aces.  Senior Nina Baek led the 'Jackets with three aces while Kohler and Martinez each had two.
 
Elmira's leaders were Natalie Scheider with 7 kills, Alicia Day with six kills and Taylor Kaznowski who added 19 assists and 13 digs.
 
Rochester closes out the regular season with three matches at the New York Regional Challenge this Friday and Saturday hosted by NYU at Hunter College in New York City.  There, the Yellowjackets will take on Montclair State on Friday before squaring off with Stevens Tech and Nazareth on Saturday.
