Chicago Wins Top-5 Battle By 2-1 Score

CHICAGO, IL – The battle between two top-5 teams lived up to expectations, with the #2 ranked University of Chicago defeating the #4 University of Rochester men's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.
 
With the win, the Maroons remain unblemished on the year, moving to 12-0 and 2-0 in the UAA.  Rochester suffers its first loss of the season and is now 7-1-2 and 0-1-1 in the conference.
 
The visiting Yellowjackets were able to strike first in the game, getting a goal from senior striker Jeff Greblick in the 16th minute.  Greblick was able to find a loose ball in the box and slam home the point blank chance for a 1-0 UR lead.
 
Less than three minutes later, UR's Zachary Kanaley had an attempt blocked, earning a corner kick.  On the ensuing corner, teammate Lucas Loecher then sent a shot sailing high of the net.
 
Chicago's first shot on goal came at 19:42 when Dayo Adeosun was turned away by UR goalie Patrick Conway.  Seven minutes later, Conway made another save, this time on UC's Matthew Koh.

Conway made five saves for the Yellowjackets.

In the second half, the host Maroons would rally, scoring both of their goals a little over a minute apart to earn the come from behind win.
 
At 53:54, Chicago's Sam Drablos would even the score by sliding a ball passed Conway at the right post.  Danie Weis and Nate Johnson picked up assists on the play for Chicago.
 
Then at 55:02, exactly 68 seconds later, Johnson would score his first goal of the season to give Chicago a 2-1 lead.  Johnson blasted a right footed shot from the left wing to the upper right corner of the net.
 
Just passed the 80 minute mark, UR's Bryce Ikeda had back to back scoring chances, but both attempts were saved by UC goalkeeper Hill Bonin.  With under 30 seconds to play on the clock, Rochester's Mitch Volis attempted a shot, looking for the tying goal, but his attempt went wide.
 
In the game, Conway made five saves for the Yellowjackets.  Bonin made two stops in the Chicago net.  Shots were 11-7 in favor of the Maroons while UR earned four of the games five corner kicks.
 
Rochester returns home and will play Carnegie Mellon University on Friday in another UAA conference showdown, starting at 7:30 pm.  Next Sunday, Case Western Reserve comes to Fauver Stadium as well.
