UR Moves into a Tie for First in the UAA with Win Over Brandeis

The University of Rochester's men's basketball team defeated Brandeis University 71-56 this evening at the Louis Alexander Palestra.
   
With the win, the Yellowjackets improve to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in the UAA. Rochester continues its winning streak which is now at seven games and six straight at home. Brandeis falls to 9-12 overall and 3-7 in the UAA. Also this evening, in Atlanta NYU defeated Emory which puts Rochester at a tie for first place in the UAA Conference with Emory University.

Leading the Yellowjackets in the game was Sam Borst-Smith finishing with 23 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tucker Knox added a season high 10 points and 7 rebounds. Michael Mangan and Jared Seltzer pitched in 9 points apiece and Jacob Wittig added 8.

Rochester shot 43% from the field in the game and a promising 59% from three-point range (10-17). UR's lead was 10 at halftime pushed by a pair of back-to-back three pointers in the final minute by Borst-Smith. The second half was much of the same; timely shooting help the Yellowjackets maintain a lead throughout the second half.

Leading the way for the Judges was Jordan Cooper who finished with 20 points on 8-15 from the field and 5 rebounds. Robinson Vilmont finished with 12 points. Brandeis finished shooting 34.6% from the field and on 45% (10-22) from the free-throw line in the game.

Rochester is back in action Sunday (2/14) at 12 pm. to take on NYU in another UAA matchup at the Louis Alexander Palestra. NYU trails Rochester and Emory by only 1 game in the UAA Conference.
