ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FL – Rochester couldn't get the offense clicking on the first day of the University Athletic Association softball championships as Emory and Brandeis both earned wins.

Emory, ranked #4 nationally, defeated Rochester, 11-3, aided by some late-game scoring antics. The Eagles scored three times in the third to take a 3-1 lead, then added four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to win on the mercy rule. Emory hit three home runs as part of its nine-hit offense.

In the second game of the day, Brandeis broke it open with an eight-run second inning and won, 10-1. Rochester had six hits, but the Yellowjackets committed four errors.

Against Emory, Eleni Wechsler homered in the first inning to give Rochester a 1-0 lead. Emory put together four hits in the third, and coupled with a Rochester error, scored three runs to take the lead. In a four-run fourth, three more runs were unearned.
Rochester scored an unearned run of its own in the fourth. Wechsler reached on a throwing error and advanced on a wild pitch. After Lauren Muni flied out, Mackenzie Cronin reached on an error which scored Wechsler. The third Yellowjacket run came home in the fifth when Shelby Corning stole home.

Wechsler took the loss. She allowed seven hits in four innings with two walks and four strikeouts. Only one of the runs scored against her was earned. Elizabeth Bourne pitched the fifth ining. She gave up two hits, walked three, and fanned one. She allowed four runs (three earned).

Muni was 2-2 against Brandeis with a run scored. Raegan Herne, Rachael Pletz, Haberly Kahn, and Laurelle Byrne-Cody all had base hits. The Yellowjackets had a chance to burst in front early, loading the bases in the second inning with no outs. Muni singled, Cronin walked, and Pletz singled. Logan Mohr drew a walk forcing home Muni.

Brandeis pitcher Sadie-Rose Apfel worked out of it. Kahn grounded to short and the Judges threw home to get the force on Cronin. Byrne-Cody struck out and Harleigh Kaczgowicz forced Mohr at third.

Sam Malecki started and took the loss. In 2.2 innings, she walked one, fanned two, allowed six hits and five earned runs (seven overall). Bourne pitched a third of an inning, and Wechsler pitched the final inning.

Rochester is 2-4 overall, 0-2 in the UAA tournament.
