Visiting Ithaca College jumped out to an early lead and made it stand up in a 12-5 win in a non-league baseball matchup with the University of Rochester on Tuesday evening at Towers Field.

The Bombers (13-9) scored five runs in the first inning and led 7-0 after three en route to their sixth straight win. The loss drops Rochester to 10-9 on the year.

Offensively for the Yellowjackets, senior Steve Eychner was 3-4 with a stolen base and a run scored while junior Pete Carrier went 2-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Freshman Aiden Finch had three RBI and classmate Ryan Spurr added a 2-run triple.

Eychner was 3-4 at the plate.
Ithaca was led by Trevor Thompson who was 4-5, ending a home run shy of the cycle, adding 2 RBI and a run. Webb Little was 3-4 with 2 RBI while Brennan McCormack scored four runs for the Bombers.

The big hit in the first inning saw John Stanley drill a triple to right field, scoring two runs for Ithaca. That was sandwiched in between a RBI double from Ryan Henchey and an RBI groundout from Andrew Bailey.

In the second and third innings, Ithaca picked up single runs with Thompson plating McCormack with an RBI single and Little singling in Matt Carey in the third.

The Yellowjackets got on the board in the fourth when Finch ripped a 2-run single to center, scoring Carrier and senior Nolan Schultz.

Ithaca would answer back, scoring five runs over the next three innings to build a 12-3 lead. Little added another RBI single in the fifth while his brother Sam provided a sac fly in the sixth. IC would then capitalize on a couple Yellowjacket miscues in the seventh to score three more runs.

Rochester's Finch added an RBI groundout in the 8th and Spurr tripled, bringing in two runs, for his second multi-RBI game in a UR uniform.

On the mound for Ithaca was John Prendergast who picked up his first win of the season. He tossed 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, 2 runs and 1 walk while striking out 4. Logan Barer then completed the game with 4 innings of relief, allowing 5 hits, 3 runs and 4 walks while fanning 8 batters.

For Rochester, Jack Denzer took the loss going the opening two innings, allowing six runs, only three of which were earned. John Ghyzel, Dan Warren and Kevin Ho each tossed one inning while David Strandberg threw four innings of relief.

UR returns to action on Wednesday with a trip to SUNY Cortland to face the defending national champion and 3rd ranked Red Dragons.
