Fisher's OT Goal Moves UR to 3-0

FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Senior co-captain Callie Fisher scored the game-winning goal 1:24 into overtime as the #18 University of Rochester field hockey team defeated St. Mary's College of Maryland 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the University of Mary Washington.

Fisher had a hand in both of UR's goals on Sunday, assisting on the opening goal off of a penalty corner by junior Samantha Dow which gave the Yellowjackets (3-0) a 1-0 lead in the opening minutes.

St. Mary's (0-2) would even up the score in the 19th minute off a penalty corner.  Mollie Belson and Sydney Cline worked a give-and-go off the corner, with Belson finding the cage with her second goal of the season.

The game remained scoreless throughout the second half, with the Yellowjackets twice going a player down to a green card in the final ten minutes.  But the Seahawks couldn't capitalize and the game would go to overtime.

In the seven-on-seven extra session, play opened up and Fisher was able to score her second goal of the year, coming off a pass from teammate Sayaka Abe for the win.  The tally was the 30th of her career to move into a tie for 9th on UR's all-time list.

In the cages, UR's Gabrielle Cantley got the start and made two saves while allowing one goal.  Kiran Sundaram played the second half and overtime and made one save, picking up her second straight win.  For St. Mary's, Alyssa Thompson played all 72 minutes and made three saves.

From the stat sheet, Rochester outshot the Seahawks 10-5 while leading the penalty corner category by the same 10-5 margin.

Rochester's next game will be at SUNY Cortland on September 9th at 7 pm.
