CLEVELAND – Rochester earned its first league victory of the season when UR defeated Brandeis, 3-1, in Round Robin #1 of the University Athletic Association. The Yellowjackets are 11-7 overall, 1-2 in the UAA. Brandeis is 7-6 overall, 0-3 in the UAA.

On Saturday, Rochester lost to third-ranked Emory University and 25th-ranked Chicago, both by 3-0 counts. This time, the Yellowjackets won a tight first set, 25-18, lost a close second set, 25-21, squeezed out a 26-24 win in set three to take a 2-1 lead, then won the match with a 25-17 win in set four.

Rochester hit .273 as a team, sparked by a .448 performance in set one and a .306 result in set three.

Beth Ghyzel had a team-high 13 kills, 11 assists, and 12 digs.
Alara Kocak had 11 kills and five digs.
Clara Martinez had eight kills.
