ATLANTA, GA – First-year goalkeeper
Emma Campbell made a season high tying eight saves, but it was not enough as the University of Rochester women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Emory University in the regular season finale at the Woodruff PE Center.
Â
The host Eagles (10-7-1, 2-4-1 UAA) got a goal in each half and made it stood up for the victory while Rochester finishes its season at 7-9-1 and was 1-6 in UAA play.
Â
After an early shot on goal by Emory and a Campbell save, Rochester earned the first corner kick of the game in the sixth minute. Nothing came of the chance and unfortunately for the Yellowjackets, that would be their only corner of the contest compared to four for Emory.
Â
The Eagles opened up the scoring at 20:27 when Samantha Hilsee scored her sixth goal of the year by heading in a corner kick from teammate Abbe McCarter.
Â
Jorie Freitag would take the lone shot on goal in the first half for Rochester at the 32-minute mark, but Emory goalkeeper Hayley Pratt was there to make the save.
Â
Early in the second half, the Yellowjackets
Annie McEachron was looking for the equalizer, but the shot was saved by Pratt, preserving what would be her second shutout of the season.
Â
Campbell withstood a flurry of Emory chances over a five-minute span beginning in the 51st minute, keeping the Yellowjackets within striking distance, turning away two shots and a corner while facing two other chances over the stretch.
Â
Rochester's final shot attempt came in the 65th minute off the foot of
Julie Hyatt, but her chance was blocked away by the Eagle defense.
Â
The Eagles would score an insurance goal with just over six minutes left in the game when Madison Phaneuf headed in a rebound shot which Campbell saved off the foot of Lily Dresner.
