Lauren Deming scored her 1,000
th career point and registered a double-double as Rochester swept past visiting Case Western Reserve, 84-41 in a women's basketball game at the Louis Alexander Palestra on Friday night.
Deming finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and one steal in 17 minutes for the nationally-ranked Yellowjackets.
Lizzy Atkinson scored 11 points. Fourteen of the 18 who played for Rochester scored at least two points.
Brynn Lauer had nine points, seven rebounds, six assists, and three steals.
Mary Kronenwetter (nine) and
Jillian Silvestri (seven) combined for 16 points.
Silvestri had 7 points.
Emily Todd led CWRU with 18 points, including four three-point goals. The Spartans couldn't get their offense in sync. Rochester scored the first 27 points of the game and led, 31-2, at the end of the first quarter. CWRU made 1 of 12 from the field and committed seven turnovers. UR was 12 of 20 from the field. Atkinson scored eight of her points in the first period.
Rochester is ranked #7 in the current D3hoops.com poll and is tied for #6 with Wartburg College in the WBCA poll. The Yellowjackets are 12-1 overall, 2-0 in the UAA. CWRU is 3-9, 0-2 UAA.
Deming reached the 1,000-point mark with 5:17 left in the second period. She made a layup to hit 1,000, then added a free throw. The three-point play gave Rochester a 42-9 lead. She became the 14
th player in UR's women's history to top 1,000 points. She left the game shortly after that. In the third quarter, she made a layup two minutes into the period. That raised her career total to 1,003. She passed Taya Branton for 13
th place in career scoring.
