PITTSBURGH – Rochester will be the seventh seed for the UAA Volleyball Championships on November 2-3 at home after the Yellowjackets lost, 3-0, to both the University of Chicago and Case Western Reserve University on Sunday.

Chicago posted a 25-17, 25-16, 25-15 victory over Rochester in Sunday's first match. CWRU took a 25-13, 25-8, 25-16 victory in the second match of the day.

UR finished round robin play with a record of 1-6, the win coming against Brandeis on Saturday. Emory and Chicago both finished 6-1 with the Eagles beating the Maroons and that should secure the top seed for them. Washington and Carnegie Mellon were both 5-2. Washington won that head to head. CWRU was 3-4, NYU 2-5, Rochester 1-6, and Brandeis 0-7.

Kocak had 9 kills vs CWRU
Chicago put on a dominating hitting exhibition in the second set to take charge of the round robin match. The Maroons hit .346 in set two with only three attack errors and 12 kills in 26 attacks. They were nearly on target as much in the third set,, hitting .289 (15 kills, four errors, 38 attacks).

For Rochester,
Alara Kocak finished with eight kills.
Allie DeRubertis had seven.
Clara Martinez and
Tamera Shaw finished with three apiece. Â
Beth Ghyzel had 16 assists, DeRubertis four, and
Courtney Vidovich three. The dig leaders were Vidovich with 20, Kocak at 15, DeRubertis 14, and
Sara Apanavicius 12.

In the match against Case, Kocak had nine kills, one ace, three digs, and one block assist. DeRubertis had five kills, eight digs, two block assists, and four assists.
Kate Korslund had four kills and five digs.

Apanavicius (16) and Vidovich (14) were the UR dig leaders. Ghyzel had nine digs to accompany 20 assists.

Rochester is 19-8 overall. The Yellowjackets will host Nazareth College on Wednesday at 6 pm. Before the match, they will honor the senior class.

The UAA Championships will be staged in the Louis Alexander Palestra and the Zornow Sports Center on November 2-3. The quarterfinals will be held at 12 noon and 2 pm in both sites on November 2. The semifinals are in the Palestra at 4 pm and 6 pm with the consolations in Zornow at those same times.

On Saturday, Zornow Courts A and C will both be used. Zornow C will stage the seventh place match, Zornow A the fifth place match, and the Palestra the third place match. All three will begin at 10 am. At 1 pm, the championship match will be played in the Palestra.
