Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rochester Improves to 8-1 Overall With 3-0 Win Over Keuka

Ulrik Koren set up one goal and scored another just 1:18 apart early in the first half to spark the University of Rochester to a 3-0 victory over Keuka College at Edwin Fauver Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Bryce Ikeda scored the first goal and Josh Cooley had the third tally – this one on a penalty kick in the second half.

Rochester, ranked #6 in the current Division III men's soccer poll, improved to 8-1. It was the first home game for the Yellowjackets in 18 days – since a2-0 win over Buffalo State on September 15.

Keuka came into the match with five wins in its previous seven games. The loss evens Keuka's record at 6-6.

Koren set himself deep in the KC penalty area and chipped a ball to the top of the box with the game barely 10 minutes old. Ikeda volleyed it from the top of the area to the low right corner. Just over a minute later, Milan Fatschel hit a long ball from the left touchline into the penalty area. Koren headed it from the edge of the crease into the top right hand corner.

The final Rochester goal came in the 68th minute. Simon Galviz was upended in the penalty area as he tried to move laterally. Cooley converted the spot kick. It was his fourth goal of the season and the fourth PK Rochester has converted (three by Ikeda).

Josh Cooley
Cooley's PK made it 3-0.
Both teams changed goalkeepers at halftime. Hugh Curran came on for Patrick Conway in the Yellowjacket net. Neither UR goalie had to make a save, although Curran did make two nice reaction catches in dangerous situations before the Wolves could get off a shot.

Ryan Mavretish made one save in the first 45 minutes for Keuka and allowed the two goals. Ryan Velte took over in the second half. He made two saves.

With Rochester ahead, 3-0, Christian Cupello stroked a nice lead ball down the middle of the field for Claude Tuyishimire cutting in from right wing. Curran read it and got to the ball first. In the final minute, Damian Rutan chipped a ball into the box with Chris Millard running free. Curran got there first. Cupello hit a long ball for Tom Reynolds in the 28th minute that he nodded ahead for Benjamin McKeown. Conway left his line and caught the ball on a bounce, just before McKeown could touch it.

Velte made a nice save in the closing minutes. Rochester sprang Ryan Aspenleiter free down the middle and he raced at goal one-on-one. Velte charged well off the line and managed to poke the ball away before Aspenleiter could circle him and shoot at an open net.

Keuka's Seth Spurgeon curled a terrific shot into the top corner of the net with 10 minutes left but the goal was waived off with the assistant referee's flag aloft for offsides.
