University of Rochester senior midfielder
Bryce Ikeda has been named a First Team All-American in men's soccer by the United Soccer Coaches (formerly known as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America). He is a native of Tacoma, Washington and a graduate of Stadium High School.
Â
The USC announced its All-America team as part of the 2018 championship banquet at the NCAA Division III Final Four for men and women in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Â
Ikeda and his Rochester teammates are in Greensboro to compete in the national semifinals on Friday at 1:45 p.m. Eastern time. Rochester, which has a 16-2-2 record, will play Tufts University. The other semifinal pairs the University of Chicago vs. Calvin College at 11 a.m. Winners play Saturday in the NCAA Division III National Championship Game.
Â
He is the fifth Rochester player to earn First Team All-America honors in men's soccer and the first one in 13 years. Rochester has a total of 25 All-America honors in men's soccer. Previous First Team All-Americans are Ted Zornow (1958),
Chris Apple (1989), Kirk Dietrich (1997), and Gary Stom (2005).
Â
This is the sixth honor for Ikeda this season – three as a player, three academically. On the field, he was named First Team All-University Athletic Association, First Team All-East Region by the USC, and now First Team All-American. Academically, he was named Google Cloud First Team Academic All-District by the College Sports Information Directors of America, UAA All-Academic, and a Lysle 'Spike' Garnish honoree by the Athletic Department at Rochester. The Garnish awards take into account athletic achievement, academic ability, and community service.
Â
As a Google Cloud First Team Academic All-District honoree, he moved to the national ballot for consideration as an Academic All-American. CoSIDA will announce its Division III Academic All-America team on Tuesday.
Â
On the field, Ikeda is Rochester's leading scorer in 2018, with 20 points in 20 games. He has a team best seven goals and is tied for the team lead with six assists. His four game-winners rank him inside the top-50 in Division III and he is a perfect 3-3 on penalty kick attempts. Ikeda also scored both goals in UR's 2-0 win over Brockport in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.Â
