Visiting Case Western Reserve University upended the University of Rochester volleyball team by a 3-0 score to capture 7th place in the UAA Tournament on Saturday morning in the Goergen Athletic Center.

The Yellowjackets end their season with a 23-12 record after dropping the match 25-23, 25-18 and 26-24. Case Western Reserve, the #5 seed in the tournament, finishes the regular season with an 18-14 overall mark.

In the opening set, the two teams battled tightly throughout until the Spartans used a 6-1 run to break a 15-all deadlock, moving ahead 20-16. Rochester got back within one, winning four of the next five points including kills from
Alara Kocak,
Megan McHugh and two from
Allie DeRubertis. The Yellowjackets then pulled even at 22-22, before the Spartans closed out the set winning three of the last four points.

Rochester struggled on the attack in the second set, leading to the comfortable Case victory. The third saw UR smack 20 kills, but Case did not have any hitting errors and finished with a .348 percentage to edge out the extra point win, 26-24.

Martinez had a career-high five aces.
Overall, the Yellowjackets Kocak finished with a team-high 10 kills, while DeRubertis added nine.Â
Clara Martinez and McHugh each had seven while
Beth Ghyzel and
Tamera Shaw each had four.Â
Megan Hauer had 18 digs for UR while DeRubertis and Kocak had 16 and 13 respectively.

Ghyzel added 37 assists and nine digs while Martinez recorded a career-high five aces in her last game in the Yellowjacket uniform.

Case Western Reserve was led by Katie Kaminski who had 12 kills and hit .545 on the day. Karley King added 10 kills for the Spartans while three players added five each. The Spartans recorded a total of seven team blocks, with Samantha Rodriguez leading the way with four. Jana Giaquinto had three along with Kaminski.

Anna Jaskoviak recorded 18 digs for CWRU with Lauren Carmon picking up 12. Faith Ellis had 21 assists while Jordyn Harberts had 13 assists and 11 digs.

The tournament finished out with top-seeded Emory sweeping #2 seed Chicago 3-0 in the championship match. Washington-St. Louis took out Carnegie Mellon 3-1 for third place, while #8 seed Brandeis rallied from a 2-0 deficit to shock NYU in the fifth place match.
