The awards keep rolling in for the University of Rochester soccer programs following highly successful seasons both on and off the field.

The United Soccer Coaches announced their Scholar All-Region and Scholar All-American teams yesterday and four members from Rochester were selected.  Senior Bryce Ikeda led the way, earning his second straight Scholar All-American honor, being named a 2nd Team selection in addition to earning 1st Team Scholar All-Region accolades.

In addition, seniors Nik Angyal and Lucas Loecher were selected 3rd Team Scholar All-East Region, while senior women's player Shayna Levy was also picked as a 3rd Team Scholar All-East honoree.

In order to be recognized as Scholar All-Region and Scholar All-Americans, student-athletes must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, started more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to their team and be a junior or above in academic standing.

Ikeda was recently recognized as a USC 1st Team All-American, just the fifth 1st Teamer in the 85-year history of the Rochester men's soccer program.  In addition, the senior midfielder was a 1st Team All-UAA selection and 1st Team All-Region and was selected to the NCAA Division III All-Tournament Team following UR's run in the postseason.  He also earned 3rd Team Google Cloud Academic All-American accolades from CoSIDA and was a 1st Team All-District choice.  Ikeda also was a UAA All-Academic selection for the third straight season.  He carries a 3.68 GPA and is majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering and was one of eight repeat USC Scholar All-Americans in 2018.

Angyal has earned numerous academic accolades this season, stemming from his perfect 4.00 GPA in his Chemical Engineering major.  He was selected the NCAA's Division III Men's Soccer Elite 90 award winner for having the highest GPA among all players at the NCAA Tournament finals site.  Last week, he was also honored as the Google Cloud Division III Men's Soccer Academic All-American of the Year and 1st Team Academic All-American, becoming only the second UR men's soccer player and third ever at UR to earn AAA of the Year plaudits.  Angyal also contributed to the success of the team on the field, earning All-East Region 3rd Team honors and Honorable Mention All-UAA accolades.  The Stormville, NY native also is a 3-time UAA All-Academic selection.

Loecher, a 1st Team All-UAA representative and 3rd Team All-East Region honoree, was a backbone to the Yellowjacket defense in his center back position.  He carries a 3.30 GPA in chemical engineering and earned UAA All-Academic accolades as well this season.  Overall, Loecher is a two-time All-UAA choice, two-time All-Region honoree with 2018 being his first academic honor from the United Soccer Coaches.

Levy, a senior captain on the women's squad, also played a key center back role for the Yellowjackets.  She was named Scholar All-Region after carrying a 3.75 cumulative GPA in her Financial Economics major at the University.  This season was her third straight on the UAA All-Academic team and first Scholar All-Region award.  For her performance on the field, Levy was also a 2nd Team All-East selection from the USC and was named 1st Team All-UAA.

Both Rochester soccer programs experienced tremendous seasons in 2018.  The men finished with a 16-3-2 record and reached the NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals, the deepest NCAA run for a UR men's soccer program, and the 16 wins matched a school record and Rochester.  The women's team finished 9-8-1 and played one of the toughest schedules in NCAA Division III, playing the #1, #2, #3 and #4 teams in the country at one point.  Rochester ended up earning at at-large berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since the 2010 season.
