Alexandra Leslie put on a stellar offensive performance on Friday evening as Rochester traveled to Cleveland, Ohio to face Case-Western University. The outcome of this one was similar to the first meeting between the two teams in the Palestra back in January when UR beat Case-Western Reserve 84-41. After a tight first quarter in this one, UR dominated the next three on their way to a convincing 81-49 victory to end their winless streak at three.
Leslie was on fire from the start, shooting 6-7 from the field and ending the first half with 12 points. She continued her hot shooting in the third quarter, stepping behind the three-point line for two long-range shots. She is now 4-4 on the year from three.
Leslie finished the night leading the Yellowjackets on offense with 22 points on 10-12 shooting. She chipped four rebounds and two assists in just 18 minutes.
Foley scored 12 points.
Lauren Deming had an efficient first half of her own, scoring all of her 11 points on 5-5 shooting in the first two quarters. Deming finished with 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks for the Yellowjackets.
Lauren Foley had a big game off the bench for Rochester, scoring 12 points of her own.
Brynn Lauer added five points and seven assists while
Brenna James chipped in six. James also led the way defensively for UR with five steals.
It was an overall victory for Rochester as 13 different 'Jackets got into the scoring mix. Rochester was efficient from the field shooting 52% and was 9-19 (47%) from three-point land as a team.
Leading the way for Case-Western Reserve was Emma Cain with 14 points in 23 minutes. Hillary Hellman added eight points, six rebounds and three steals while Kendall McConico had eight points as well. Rebecca Rowlands led Case-Western with 11 rebounds.
It was an exciting first quarter as both teams ran the court and shot well. Case-Western Reserve was able to keep up with Rochester for the first eight minutes, tying the game at 17 before UR went on an 8-0 to end the quarter and take a 23-15 lead.
Case-Western never quite recovered as Rochester outscored them 15-3 in the second quarter to go into the half up 38-20.
The third quarter started out the same way as Rochester went up 55-22 before Case-Western was able to get going a little bit to begin the fourth. In the end the Yellowjackets proved to be too much and came away with a 32-point win.
Rochester will travel to Pittsburgh, PA next to take on Carnegie Mellon this Sunday with the tip set to take place at 2:00pm.
