Kenyon Shuts Out 'Jackets Mens Tennis In Florida

ORLANDO, FL – For the second straight day, the University of Rochester men's tennis team took on a nationally ranked team, ultimately falling 9-0 to #22 Kenyon College during the teams spring break trip in Florida.

The loss drops Rochester to 4-8 on the season, while Kenyon improves 7-2 with the win.

UR was very competitive with the Lords in doubles play and carried that over into singles as well.  The top doubles team of Masaru Fujimaki and Peter Huang were tied 8-8 with Weston Noall and Alex Rieger, but Kenyon's team would win the tiebreaker 7-1.

At 2nd doubles, KC's Jacob Zalenski and Austin Diehl were 8-5 winners over Mattias Hartveit and Sahaj Somani.  Kenyon's Bryan Yoshino and Michael Liu gave the Lords a 3-0 doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Tanmay Thakkar and Damani Eubanks.

In singles, UR forced a third set in two matches and squared off in tiebreaker sets in two additional matches, showing it could hang with one of the top teams in Division III.

At #1, Fujimaki battled Zalenski, with UR winning the first set 7-6 (1), before Kenyon's player answered with 6-2, 10-3 wins to grab the point.  Huang also won the opening set in a tiebreak at #5 against Yoshino, but would lose his match by a score of 6-7 (5), 6-4 and 10-7.

The 3rd singles match between Thakkar and Nicholas Paolucci went 6-2, 7-6 (2) in favor of Kenyon, while at #4, Liu won over Rochester's Yifan Shen 6-1 and 7-6 (3).

Rounding out the match, Diehl was a 6-3, 6-1 winner at #2 over Jun Yuminaga, while Noall topped Somani 6-1, 6-2 at #6.

The Yellowjackets close out their Florida slate with a contest against Division II Augustana University of South Dakota on Thursday morning.
