Bankovich Hits Two Long Balls as UR Falls to 19th Ranked Oswego State

The University of Rochester Baseball team put up an impressive fight against #19 Oswego State on Wednesday but couldn't hold on during the late innings, falling by a score of 11-7. UR drops to 6-10 with the loss while Oswego State moves to 17-5.

After falling behind early, the Yellowjackets tied it at two-all on a Drew Bankovich 2-run homer over the left field fence scoring Jack Herman.  Rochester held Oswego State scoreless in the bottom half of the fourth before taking a commanding lead in the fifth.

Tyler Schmidt started the run parade in the fifth with a two-RBI single scoring Steve Pickering and Aiden Finch.  Minutes later Bankovich was up again and blasted his second long ball of the game to left field; this time a three-run shot to give UR a 7-2 lead.

Oswego State began creeping their way back in the bottom of the 7th on a Mike Dellicarri triple. A throwing error by the Yellowjackets helped the Lakers make it a 7-4 game.

Oswego State was able to take over in the eighth inning, scoring seven unanswered runs to secure victory. Myles Kutscher got things started with a single through the left side scoring Kevin Hylas.  A Brandon Nicholson double then scored two more to make it a 7-7 tie.  Dellicarri then singled up the middle to bring home Nicholson and take an 8-7 lead. The Lakers tacked on three more in the inning as insurance and were able to hold off Rochester in the ninth.

Bankovich had a monster game offensively for the Yellowjackets with two homeruns and a single accounting for five of Rochester's seven RBI.  Schmidt drove in the other two runs for the Yellowjackets, going 2-4 on the day. Finch had a triple on the day while Herman and Rylan McNabb had one hit each for UR.

Jack Denzer started on the mound for the Yellowjackets, going 4.0 innings while allowing two earned runs on five hits.
