Rochester scored both early and late to produce a 2-2 double-overtime tie with 14
th-ranked SUNY Geneseo on Saturday afternoon at Edwin Fauver.
The Yellowjackets hit the back of the net in the first minute of play and in the 85
th minute. Geneseo, down by one goal for the first hour, ripped off two goals less than three minutes apart midway through the second half.
Kerri Eden scored the Rochester goals. She struck in the opening minute, assisted by
Jorie Freitag, then found good fortune due to a defensive miscue by Geneseo with 5:40 to go.
Geneseo's Miranda Orimek figured in both goals for the Knights. She set up the first – the equalizer scored by Domenica Piccoli – then scored the second on a nicely floated free kick from Jennifer Moran.
Orimek and Piccoli were the two most effective front-runners for Geneseo. They laid a steady siege on the Rochester defensive third, but the Yellowjackets were well organized and held off the challenges repeatedly.
Besides Eden and Freitag, a number of Rochester players created chances.
Carolyn Richards battled for the ball consistently and
Jamison Seabury put in a number of bids for her second collegiate goal (she scored in a win over Keuka in midweek).
With a crowd of more than 300 on hand, Rochester started quickly The opening kickoff was sent to Freitag on the right. She dribbled straight down the touchline before turning to square a pass in the near right post, six yards off the line. Eden ran into position perfectly and re-directed it into the center of the net. The match was 38 seconds old.
Geneseo stepped up the pressure in the second half and found an equalizer in the 62
nd minute. The visitors broke quickly on a counter attack straight up the middle before laying the ball off to Orimek on the right touchline. She carried it deeper into the third, then hit a low center to the unmarked Piccoli at the penalty spot. She had only to turn and slot it to the low left corner.
Three minutes later, a Rochester foul provided a free kick along the left touchline. Moran floated the ball to the far post where both Orimek and Piccoli were charging. She. It found Orimek who headed it just inside the right post.
Rochester pressed for an equalizer. A pass from the center of the field sent Seabury in alone on right wing. Her 1v1 rising shot was saved in the 75

The best chance of extra time belonged to the Knights. UR's defense blocked shots by Grace Dunnigan and Piccoli in one sequence. It led to a corner kick which Taylor Clar headed over the crossbar.
