CLEVELAND – Case Western Reserve University scored twice in the first 14 minutes and defended that early advantage for a 2-1 victory over the University of Rochester in a women's soccer match on Sunday afternoon.

It gave the Spartans their first UAA win of the season. CWRU is 11-3 overall, 1-3 in the UAA. Rochester is 8-4-1 overall, 0-3-1 UAA.

Through four matches in the UAA season, Washington (4-0), Chicago (3-0-1), and Carnegie Mellon (3-1) hold down the top three spots. Emory is fourth at 2-2. CWRU, Brandeis, and NYU are all tied for fifth place at 1-3. Rochester will host NYU and Brandeis on November 1-3 before finishing at Emory on November 9. The Yellowjackets play a regional game at RIT later this week.

Jamison Seabury scored the Yellowjacket goal in the 19
th minute with
Carolyn Richards assisting. UR earned a corner kick which
Jorie Freitag looped into the box. It was bandied about and kicked out. Seabury drove it into the upper corner of the goal.

The Spartans scored both of their goals through Anika Washburn. In the 11
th minute, she collected a pass from Merry Meyer, stepped around a defender to keep possession, and shot the ball into the corner of the goal. Two minutes later, Rochester was charged with a handball in the box, leading to a penalty kick. Washburn converted the gift and the lead was 2-0.

Lauren Unterborn earned the win in goal. She made one save.
Emma Schechter made five saves for Rochester.
