Yellowjackets Win on Senior Day 78-48

On senior day, the University of Rochester Men's Basketball team stepped foot in the Palestra one last time in the regular season, as they hosted conference opponent Washington University-St. Louis. With a 78-48 victory, the Yellowjackets moved into a tie for first place in the UAA. UR moves to 18-4 overall on the season.

Back in January, Washington was able to defeat Rochester 93-62, following a first half in which WUSTL outscored the Yellowjackets 66-30. However, things would be different this time around.

UR opened up strong, starting off on an 11-0 run to begin the game. Rochester would lead by as many as 17 in the first half, before finishing the half up 37-21.

As a team, the Yellowjackets shot 57.69% from the floor in the first half, and 50% from downtown. UR also benefited from strong defense, as they were able to hold the Bears to only 29.2% from the field in the first half.

Ryan Clamage and Ryan Algier led the way at the half with ten points and eight points, respectively. Jacob Wittig also made contributions, posting seven points at five assists in the first half.

In the second half, the Yellowjackets would just continue to build upon their first half performance. Rochester shot 63% from the floor and 50% from beyond the arc in the second half.

Clamage came into the game with 977 career points. Up 74-48 with just over a minute left, the senior made a layup to give him his 23rd point of the game, making him the 30th player in Rochester Men's Basketball history to achieve 1,000 career points. Clamage would finish the game with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.

Wittig completed the game with 10 points, 8 assists, and 6 boards. Algier would go on to contribute 10 points as well, along with 2 blocks, 2 assists, and 2 boards. Seniors Andrew Lundstrom, Alexander Gamble, and Brendan O'Shea all made contributions in their final regular season home game. Gamble put up nine points for Rochester. Lundstrom added with 8 points, 6 assists, and 6 rebounds. O'Shea also finished with eight points, while also grabbing four boards.

With the win, Rochester moves into a first place tie with Emory in the UAA standings. Emory lost to Chicago today by a final score of 114-107. Rochester and Emory are both 8-3 in conference play.

UR will finish the regular season with their final three games on the road. Rochester will play Carnegie Melon University on Friday and then travel to Cleveland to face off against Case Western Reserve University on Sunday. The Yellowjackets will close the season in Atlanta on February 23rd against Emory University.
